Ed and Adela

We went to a wedding of a friend and they did all the traditions from Mexico. It was a beautiful, special wedding ceremony.

They spoke in Spanish a lot but you could figure out what was going on. Well most of us could, the sobers ones anyways.
Crickett said his co-workers are no fun. Hmmmmm...looks like they are having fun.

They had a full Mariachi Band. The Mariachi (smaller group) first serenaded us all while we ate a
huge meal. And than the whole band came in doing the wedding walk with the bride and groom.

Mariachi music consists of trumpets, drums, guitars, as well as harps and violins. The men wear black suits, their pants laced with silver. They may also dress in white. Music from the Veracruz region is played with more delicacy.

The attendants are called madrinas and padrinos and they have special roles in the wedding.

They had a very large wedding party. They each had ten attendants.

La Marcha traditionally opens the dancing at the reception. The bride chooses a man and a woman to lead two chains of dancers. Each dancer holds the shoulders or hands of the person in front, and follows the steps of the leader. The lines weave in and out of each other as the mariachi play, and even split up and rejoin each other.
The bride and groom blessed all of the single women and men with a special dance as they weaved in and out and under the brides veil. And than the bride and groom had a blessing of their own to have children of plenty. And I have to say it must work because I think every young (mexican) married couple there had at least 3 kids.

And than came the first wedding dance for the bride and groom. After they danced awhile the band began to introduce the wedding party and the special guests. As they introduced them they dance with the bride and groom. As more are introduced they form a circle or heart around the bride and groom and the guests they are dancing with. At the end the bride and groom will dance with each other while all of the guest form around them.

We had a great time!
